I also preferr to live in possibilities, not limiting myself to one way of believing.

"But the old saying of Vox populi, vox Dei, as every philosopher knows, cannot be trusted in science." - The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin, 1859, p 133.

I disagree with Charles Darwin at that point. I believe in the old proverb Vox populi, vox Dei, translated, "The voice of the people is the voice of God," which is of unknown origin. The earliest "reference to the expression is in a letter from Alcuin to Charlemagne in 798, although it is believed to have been in earlier use." (Wikipedia) The proverb somehow stood the test of time and survived up to this day.

Early philosophers couldn't claim to have a good grasp of science. They along with early scientists were still in infantile stage. Modern science as we know today came in only at the dawn of the 20th century. Besides philosophy and natural science are two different things. The former deals more with logic while the latter deals with observable physical, natural laws. So that even if philosophers argue endlessly whether or not God exists, scientists will still look for undeniable, observable facts or evidence. One more thing, to whom was Darwin referring as God during his time?

Wow, Gilbert! I see another you! Excellent feed back. I didn't now you had it in you.

In the beginning (aged three, 1972) Sam believed in a Great Spirit who created all things (despite living with an atheist father and non practicing catholic mother) and who surely wouldn?t leave this world to destroy itself (1977). He, though unacquainted with the Native American Indian?s beliefs and others around the world, believed this so much from his own heart, observations and study of the world around.

2008 he still believes in The Great Spirit despite joining the Jehovah?s Witnesses in 1989 to suffer near totally spiritual slaughter. Two years ago discovered Hopi Indian?s belief and faith system that is very similar to his own. biggrin Unfortunately Sam can?t join the Hopi Indians. cryingBut fortunately he also realizes he doesn?t need to join any person, organization, church or group to treat humans with dignity, love and respect and have faith in a Great Creator Spirit. smile He wants to live in a teepee, but for now will just have to realize he is an alien resident with little control over where he lives and for how long. Just like his spiritual brothers around the world who don?t know him from a piece of cheese.

Faith, hope and love are in our hearts and our actions.

Love, peace and hope,
Sam

Our bodies are our prison. I leave all options open. Pete

I, too, have an open mind because if I don't have, then I would still be slaving for the WT and that alien god called Jehovah. Okay, my mind is still open for an alien god. Now, if there is only proof... But don't show me an indifferent alien god. The realization that Jehovah was a cruel god made me rebel against Him. angry

Lisa

There's this possibility that the God we're looking for is us. Borrowing from the quote "I see the enemy, and it is me," I also see God, and it is us. Unless, you can show me proof of an alien God. If we can only realize that we are, collectively, God, then we will have solved the root cause of suicide bombings being done in the name of God; global warming; poverty; injustice; and now, looming global food crisis.

The above is just my point of view which I would like to share with you. I'm open to any comment or criticism.

Pete: Dawin KNEW that evolution happened. He just couldn't explain exactly how. That was quite a long time ago. Science was no where near knowing what DNA was. Things have come a LONG way and these things are no longer a mystery. They are scientific fact. Do some research - really - it's not that hard.

I thought is was still called the theory of evolution, not the fact of evolution. I also read many scientists? comments over the years that the more they discover the more unanswered questions come up. In fact some scientists who were once atheists have become so awe struck by some of the things they have discovered that they now believe in a God, as that is for them the only explanation.

About the only fact of DNA science I have read about is the confirmation we all can be traced back to one man and one woman. And the odds of this one man and woman evolving during the same time in the same place with perfect bodies to complement each other for reproduction of fertile offspring was so infinite that it would be an impossibility.

Please, also, someone clear up the distinction between natural selection and survival of the fittest that I thought Darwin was getting at which I gather is totally different from evolving.

There still has been no break through in finding the missing link, at least not when I last read through the news.

And as far as I can gather, the reason so many animals are close to us in their DNA is because we have the same designer. Like most artists their works can be distinguished due to a particular trait in their art or technique. God only had to change one tiny aspect of the DNA to create a totally different animal. Like an artist only has to add to or take away from a little paint to create a totally different color to his liking.

I personally like the idea of being created and answerable to a Great Creator Spirit. Evolving from apes has no appeal nor does it make sense to me. Neither does it make sense that a atom that has no rational intelligence that would enable it to think be able to come together with other atoms in counsel to create anything of substance let alone anything that has the breath of life in it that can reproduce more of its kind.

Thoughtfully created human or hap hazard evolved ape?

Just my two cents worth.
Love and peace,
Sam
